Aurora Shooting Memorial Dismantled

by KREX News Room

AURORA, Colo.- On Thursday city workers in Aurora began boxing up a community memorial where thousands of Coloradans paid their respects to the shooting victims.

The memorial had become a familiar site to folks in Aurora and around the world.

It was located at a street corner right near the theater, but recent rain had begun to damage it.

Around 30 volunteers and Aurora city staff members packed up the items into hundreds of boxes and bags.

The items will be sorted and archived, and city officials say they hope to eventually create a local museum exhibit.

The 12 large crosses that were on site will be sent to the victims' family members.
