GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Grand Junction Fire and Police Department responded to a house engulfed in flames around 9:10 p.m. Sunday.

Around 21 firefighters responded to a house near 29 Road and F Road, located at 618 1/2 W. Indian Creek Drive.

Fire officials say the fire started in the attic and spread to all the bedrooms on the upper level of the house.

Officials say two people and a dog were home when the fire started, but they we're able to get out of the house unharmed.

Authorities say the house was in bad condition, and if five more minutes would have passed by, the house could have completely burned down.

They had to rip out all the ceilings in the upstairs bedrooms and attic.

Officials say the residents will be displaced.

Authorities do not know what caused the fire or estimated damage costs.

My boyfriend and I were in bed when the fire at 618 1/2 w Indian creek Dr started, the chimney caught on fire for some unknown reason, we had 2 cats and a dog in the house at the time of the fire, our little family of 5 made it out just fine. we were estimated at $100,000.00 in damages, and the house will have to be rebuilt. Lucky my Boyfriend was still awake at the time he said he saw a glow all around the house and thought the neighbors had put up Christmas lights, he went to check it out and saw the chimney on fire. The back two bed rooms were damaged and the entire ceiling upstairs was ripped out by fire officials. The fire went from the chimney up through the attic and ruined all the drywall for our ceilings above the 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms upstairs. Thanks for your time, thought I would up date you about our situation.
