ASPEN, Colo.- After the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, communities throughout the country, including Colorado, are taking extra efforts to make sure kids are safe from harm.

According to the Aspen Times, Aspen's largest child care center and the city's public schools are enforcing more security and looking into what can be done in the future.

Security at the building, home to the Early Learning Center, Mare's Playgroup and Aspen Mountain Tots, has limited access to the building to one main entrance.

The Aspen School District's Crisis Response Team met last week to discuss what short and long term changes should be made.

The group will look at these options and eventually present them to the Board of Education for input.
