ASPEN, Colo.- The Aspen Police Department released its annual crime and police call statistics for 2012.

The biggest problems authorities faced were bears and fraud.

According to the Aspen Times, in 2008, police dealt with 82 calls regarding bears, in 2010 it jumped to 351. Last year, it was more than a thousand calls from early summer through mid-autumn.

Reasons behind the spike in bear activity correlates with the spring drought. Officials say there was less natural mountain food available forcing bears to search for food in other places.

Fraud was also another trend that increased significantly this past year.

In 2010 there were 54 cases and in 2012 it jumped to 175.
