by KREX News Room
by Associated Press

ASPEN, Colo.- Cracks in the snow at Aspen Mountain forced Aspen Skiing Co. to limit terrain on the mountain over avalanche concerns.

Officials found extensive snow cracking along the top of Bell Mountain, and a slide was visible underneath Ajax Express, which had opened for the first time this season.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center says the avalanche danger for the Aspen area is considerable for slopes facing north through southeast above tree line and for all slopes facing northwest through east near and below tree line.

According to the Aspen Daily News, skiing on the top of Ajax is limiited while the patrol eliminates avalanche danger on steep slopes.
