GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Western Colorado Auto Theft Task Force made multiple arrests after putting out a bait vehicle in Grand Junction.

The Grand Junction Police Department says 45-year-old Kevin Butler was arrested after the vehicle was tracked to his home from its original location near 30 1/2 Road and the I-70 Business Loop.

In a separate incident, 28-year-old Cody Guerrero was arrested after the bait vehicle was stolen and abandoned in the middle of the road.

An investigation from surveillance photos led authorities to Guerrero, as well as 36-year-old Felipe De Jesus Rodriquez, who is also believed to be connected to this theft.

Butler and Guerrero are both facing vehicle theft charges.

Authorities say it only takes 47 seconds on average to steal a car.

One of the best ways to prevent vehicle theft is to keep all doors locked and windows rolled up. Also, park in well-lit areas and remove all valuable items from visibility.

I grew up with Cody... he was a funny kid. He was smart and creative as well. I think things turned sour for him when his parents divorced. He also had some health problems in high school. I hope things turn around for him, but it sounds like he's being investigated for other crimes.

I am sure their parents are proud of them.
