GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- AmeriCorps volunteers made blankets for veterans who are homebound.

Amie Borden, a CMU AmeriCorps member, has served in the army for five years and in Iraq for a year. "It actually was a personal goal of mine. I was just laying in bed and I thought of it. I wanted to pick something that we as a community could do for the veterans, the older generation, and I believe blankets are a hug around your heart," said Borden.

Tony Nelson, a vet with Vets Helping Vets Donations, spoke to the group and was also there collecting donations for the community food pantry.

AmeriCorps is a national organization that offers support to those in need. This was the first Colorado Cares event in the Grand Valley. The blankets were transported to the recipients via motorcade Friday afternoon.
