GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- As many celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with the day off, AmeriCorps is hoping folks remember the significance of this holiday.

To honor not only the doctor's message of non-violence but also the victims in Newtown ,Conn., Mesa County AmeriCorps is encouraging everyone to join the nation-wide movement known as "26 Acts of Kindness.”

“There are so many things that you can do for your fellow neighbor or just to put a smile on someone’s face,” said Angie Bertrand, director of AmeriCorps. “That’s something we all have the ability to do.”

When you do perform an act of kindness, officials encourage you to post it on their Facebook page at "Mesa County AmeriCorps."
