Amendment 64 Supporters React to Official Legalization

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Although the Department of Revenue has until July 1, 2013 to decide how to regulate marijuana, supporters of Amendment 64 say they're glad to see progress after Governor John Hickenlooper signed an executive order Monday, formalizing the amendment.

"It's an exciting step away from a prohibited market and towards a legal regulated market for marijuana which will reduce crime and which will reduce the amount of money that we're sending to Mexican drug cartels," said David Cox, former coordinator for Amendment 64.

"We certainly applaud the Governor for moving forward and making it clear that Coloradans will no longer be arrested simply for using marijuana in private," said Mason Tvert, co-director of Amendment 64.

The Colorado State Patrol also made a statement on Monday, reminding folks that although using marijuana is now legal in Colorado, driving while under the influence is still illegal.

"Drivers must realize that if you are stopped by law enforcement officials and it is determined that your ability to operate a motor vehicle has been affected to the slightest degree by drugs, alcohol or both, you may be arrested and subjected to prosecution under Colorado's DUI/DUID laws," said Colonel James Wolfinbarger, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol.

The federal government has yet to issue a statement regarding the recent legalization in Washington State and the State of Colorado.

Kalyvn, how dare you insult the people of Western Colorado by calling them something as hidious as a progressive?! We have seen how "progressives" have ran this country into the ditch, and the swamp beyond the ditch! Most Colorado folk who don't work for the corrupt state and local government are decent folk who do not mind working for a living.

Pot is a gateway drug, I've personally seen it destroy lives. It damages families, communities, and lives. And before you throw the same ole tired argument, alcohol does the same thing. That's all beside the point, be legalizing pot you have now opened a door to other things. For example legalizing other drugs. It's a dangerous slippery slope. As for small business that's one thing, open a small business a hemp products store that's fine. Pot doesn't need to be legal for consumption to do that. Drug and alcohol abuse decays society thats a known fact. And another thing do you really think cartels are going to be shut down by this? If so your dreaming. We are going to have to agree to disagree. And just because something is progressive doesn't mean it's a good thing.

ITK-Where is the value of legal cocaine and meth? A plant is a plant, big difference there. To hypothesize such a scenario is short sighted in my opinion. We are on the path of having so much more to offer in Colorado, because the majority of it's citizens are progressive. This is a wonderful thing. Not to bash the midwest, but you might feel more at home in Topeka, Kansas.

No ITK you're an idiot because you don't know the first thing about cannabis, all you know is that you don't like it, all you know is what you have been programed to think from years and years of negative and false information and lies. If you really knew the basics facts about this plant there is no way in the world you could would be against this it! Are you against a cure for cancer? Are you against farming Hemp to make textiles instead of using nylon and plastics that hurt the environment! Are you against small business! What is it ITK, please tell us the reason you are against it?

What makes me an idiot? Just because I don't agree? Leave it to a liberal, if you don't agree with their position they resort to personal attacks. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. What a joke!

Colorado is no longer going to be known for skiing and other outdoor activity, it's now know for pot. How sad. What I wanna know is what's next, legal cocaine and meth? Why not it all starts with pot anyway.
