Amendment 64 Debate Continues

by KREX News Room
by Christina Marrazza

DENVER- One hot button issue on Colorado ballots is Amendment 64, which would regulate marijuana like alcohol.

Law enforcement agencies across Colorado say they want people to vote "no" on the measure, but not everyone agrees.

Amendment 64 would make it legal to grow, transport and sell marijuana in Colorado.

Anyone 21 years or older would be allowed to possess and consume up to an ounce of marijuana.

The legislation would also allow marijuana retail stores, as well as growing and testing facilities.

Law enforcement agencies across the state have spoken out against the measure.

Gov. Hickenlooper has also taken a stand against it.

However, others argue it would improve tourism and create jobs.

Why do they only say "law enforcement" is asking people to vote no... why couldn't they include the 300 doctors and 100's of professors that are saying vote yes! effing media!

Anyone notice how the MJ people NEVER say anything about the money? They don't want anyone knowing how rich they are going to get on other peoples problems. MJ doesn't cure anything, it just makes you high, and they get rich. A trillion dollars over seventy years, you best be finding out about your numbers because they don't add up to the budget numbers being put out by the gov't.

The people of this country are smart enough to make there own decisions. What I dont understand is the few who think they know better without using a single shred of evidence. Leagalize and regulate. Dont forget. A store will ID and only sell MJ. A dealer on the street which your child could find today will have a much wider selection for your child to pick from.

Sorry Floyd but you are wrong, just last month we passed the one trillion dollar mark on the war on Drugs, it was all over the news! I don't know what your problem is with regulating marijuana? Sure some kids will get it either way with or without ID, big brother, parents ect. Don't tell me you never had a keg party when you were under 21? Still I feel regulation is better than having no regulation at all! Drug dealers don't ask for ID, they sell more than just pot, and they don't care about safeguarding any children and they don't pay tax. At least with pot regulated we have control of who purchases it legally, we collect tax we make a good effort to protect our children. If you want to let the cartels to run the pot show then vote no on 64, if you want the State to run the local marijuana stores and keep it to the 21 and over crowd then vote yes on 64. Or if you just can't get that prohibition mind set out of your head, please just don't vote! Yes on 64 it's right for Colorado.

Amendment 64 is a for profit amendment. The bottom line and the bank accounts of those who will profit most from this amendment is what they don't want anyone to talk about. Why not have a debate about how much profit will be made by those who will be selling MJ. How about a debate about more MJ on the market being available for those younger than 21? Did prohibition stop people from getting alcohol? How will regulation keep preteens and teens from obtaining MJ? How does regulation keep teens from obtaining alcohol? A trillion dollars has not been spent on the drug wars.

I will vote yes

What debate? I haven't seen a single logical, fact-based argument against Amendment 64. The War on Drugs is an abject failure, and "victimless crime" is an oxymoron. If you oppose this measure, you're no different than the alcohol prohibition activists who aided and abetted organized crime in the early 20th century.

effing pot heads

Nothing good has ever come from the war on drugs! One trillion dollars and 70 years of prohibition have failed to do anything but increase the prison population of non violent offenders and ruin the lives of countless victims of this failed war! Time has come to try something different, legalize marijuana now, it makes sense and it's the right thing to do for Colorado! Yes on 64.
