Alive at 25 Raising Awareness and Preventing Drunk Driving

CLIFTON, Colo.- As Grand Junction High School and Colorado Mesa University celebrate their homecomings this week, officials are making sure to remind everyone not to drink and drive.

They're hosting one specific program that's been around for more than 10 years.

This Saturday, the Colorado State Patrol and National Safety Council will hold an Alive at 25 class at the Clifton Fire Department.

Alive at 25 is a nationwide program that started in Colorado.

The class lasts more than four hours, and is held several times throughout the year, especially around homecoming and prom season to promote safe and sober driving.

"I think if they can walk away with some good tools to make the right decision when it involves driving, it's going to save their life and the lives of others down the road," said Debbi Funston, instructor for Alive at 25.

Alive at 25 is a multipurpose class that allows new drivers to get their license permits.

Taking the class may even reduce their insurance fees.

The class is available to anyone 15 to 24 years old.

The goal of the class is to learn about the dangers of drinking and driving, and the importance of being a cautious driver while following speed limits.

Due to the demand of the program, this Saturday's Alive at 25 class is full, but there will be more available.
