GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- An ATV rollover sent one man to the hospital and prompted warnings Sunday afternoon.

A man was riding an ATV on a desert road when he lost control, flipped and was tossed through a barbed wire fence.

The victim's mother told NewsChannel5 her son was bleeding from the head and has severe cuts and possibly a broken arm. "I would say if you're taking somebody's machine out for the first time, definitely know it, ride it for a little while before you get too courageous with it," said Deborah McDonald.

McDonald says her son was going about 40 mph. Officials want to emphasize that in the summer months, when more people are active outdoors, it's important to wear proper safety gear.
