24 Years For Taco Bell Shooting

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A man is sentenced to 24 years in prison for the Taco Bell shooting on North Avenue, and killing of Jorge Carrasco.

Lester Miranda-Davis plead guilty to second-degree murder, second-degree burglary, menacing with a deadly weapon and robbery, back in September.

After a delayed sentencing hearing, the judge came out with a 24-page written sentencing order for Miranda-Davis to serve the minimum of 24 years in prison.

"I started in 1996, this is the first time I've ever seen or heard of a judge entering a sentence in writing. It was a little surprising to us that he did that, but there doesn't appear to be anything legally wrong with it. It's just sometimes difficult for family members who've lost their family member to not be there when the sentencing is imposed," said Dan Rubinstein, district attorney.

The family of Jorge Carrasco, was hoping to be present in the court room when the sentence was imposed.

Miranda-Davis could have received up to 48 years in prison, but will face 24 years, with a pre-sentence confinement credit for 557 days.

Miranda-Davis was accused of shooting and killing Jorge Carrasco, who was eating in the patio area outside the Taco Bell, in July of 2011.
