24 Road Bridge Replacements

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Three new bridges to help widen 24 road received major improvements Wednesday.

All three bridges are being repaired at once, and Wednesday, 35,000 pound girders were being placed along the bridge abutments.

Construction officials say everything is scheduled on time and has gone smoothly, despite the cooler temperatures and snow.

"Basically after we get these on, we'll form up the rest of the walls, pour a deck on that, and we can back-fill against the concrete abutments. We're getting closer to the stages where we can do the guardrails," said Shawn Herron, Mesa County construction inspector.

Keep in mind there is a detour on 24 Road near I road where the three bridges are.

The project is expected to be completed May 15.
