National Program Helps Mesa County With Food, Shelter

by KREX News Room
by Danielle Kreutter

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Mesa County has been awarded more than $72,000 from the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program to help local programs.

The grants can be applied for through United Way of Mesa County.

To be eligible, an organization must be an existing nonprofit program that administers food or shelter with an accounting system and volunteer board of directors.

"This year we were awarded an extra $72,000, so you can see that that translates into quite a few extra served meals or nights of shelter, especially going into a cold December," said Julie Hinkson of the United Way of Mesa County.

If you work for a qualifying agency and are interested in applying for some of the grant money, please call Julie Hinkson or Abby Landmeier at 970-243-5364.

The deadline for applications is Dec. 7.
