DENVER- Colorado car dealers say vehicle sales are up more than a third over July last year.

The president of the Colorado Car Dealer Association says figures show consumers are regaining confidence in the economy and they are replacing older model vehicles with more fuel efficient brands.

Officials credit more readily available and more affordable vehicles, making it easier to buy a new car or truck.

In Colorado, nearly 86,000 new vehicles were registered from January to July, compared with about 71,000 for the same period in 2011.

That's up more than 20 percent.
