10 "Winnable Battles" for Health and Environmental Issues

by KREX News Room
by Danielle Kreutter

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment released a list of what they consider winnable battles.

  • Clean Air
  • Clean Water
  • Infectious Disease Prevention
  • Injury Prevention
  • Mental Health and Substance Abuse
  • Obesity
  • Oral Health
  • Safe Food
  • Tobacco
  • Unintended Pregnancy

The department believes Colorado can tackle these issues in the next three to five years, some of which have already been made a priority by Mesa County.

"Having those 10 winnable battles and choosing from those to make our own priorities allows us to really have a more focused relationship with the surrounding counties which all have their own local health department," said Jeff Kuhr Mesa County health director.

The Health Department says with a collective effort they hope to minimize these issues across the state.

So, what are they going to do? lock everybody up in padded cells and only let people out when there is no chance of getting hurt or touching other people to contract sickness from someone who is sick? More government is the problem, not the answer.
