Identity Released in Hwy 141 Fatal

MESA COUNTY, Colo. A motorcycle accident on Saturday night resulted in one fatality. Colorado State Patrol officials say the motorcycle crash happened on Colorado 141 near mile post 143 southbound.
According to the Mesa County Coroner, Steven Smythe, a 28-year-old resident of Grand Junction was the victim. The cause of death was blunt force head injuries and the manner of death was accidental.
According to CSP, the motorcycle left the right side of the roadway on a curve that marked with advisory signs and struck heavy brush while descending an embankment. The driver was ejected and landed near the motorcycle. The driver was wearing a helmet.
There were no other vehicles involved or witnesses of the crash. The motorcycle and driver were discovered by the owner of the adjacent property while on a walk with his children
CSP was notified of the crash just before 7 p.m.
Officials would like to remind riders and drivers to remain aware of their surroundings, especially as days are becoming shorter colder weather is approaching.
