by Associated Press

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii - More than 2,000 people are gathering at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii Friday to mark the 71st anniversary.

The Japanese attack killed thousands of people and launched the United States into World War II.

Ceremonies got under way this morning with a moment of silence at 7:55 a.m., local time -- the exact time the bombing began in 1941.
