MESA COUNTY, Colo. Every few years different companies bid for the opportunity to bring their carnival to the Mesa County Fair. NewsChannel 5 tested out nearly all the rides before they opened to the public, and has a firsthand look at what folks can expect.
Some carnival rides aren't for the faint the for the faint of heart. Brown's carnival is back with rides that will spin you, lift you and take you on a wild ride.
Kyle Carstens, a fair board member, said, "Some of them can't say anything because they are just terrified and dizzy, but they just love it, they keep coming back and back and back.
Trysten Klinglesmith, a fair ambassador, said, "We have the best carnival in the west! It is awesome."
From the Tilt-A-Whirl to the Ferris wheel, many favorite rides are back.
"Teenagers obviously love the Gravitron and the Zipper, Pharaoh's Fury was very popular. Then the little kids, there's tons of things for them to do! The numbers for the carnival just continue to increase, so a lot of those are returned customers," said Carstens.
Funds from the carnival and other fair staples, keep the event running each year, "The county doesn't have a lot of money, just like a lot of organizations, so we have to do our part and make money to help put on this event as well," Carstens said.
So whether you like to go fast or ride leisurely, fair officials invite you to join them for the adventure.
"The rides are so much fun, it's so safe and it's so clean, it's the best in the west!" said Klinglesmith.
"Come out and celebrate the best five days of summer right here at the Mesa County Fair," Carstens said.
Single ride tickets are available at the carnival ticket booth every day this week. Thursday is Buddy Day from 5 to 8 p.m. Just purchase a carnival pass and your buddy gets one free.
