Atrium Residents Dig Into 50 Foot Banana Split

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. On Saturday residents of The Atrium dug into a 50 foot banana split, as part of their efforts to raise $1.2 million for veterans.
The senior living home is raising money to send returning veterans to the Outward Bound for vets program. It costs $2,000 per veteran to attend the program. The Atrium hopes to send the entire waiting list of 600 veterans.
Once The Atrium completes fundraising efforts in the months ahead, their parent company will match that amount.
Teresa Jackson, enrichment coordinator at The Atrium, said, "Our veterans have served us well, and it's just something we feel a need for. We really support our veterans and anything we can do to make their lives more comfortable. We care about what they've done for us, we're grateful for their time and service."
The entire community is invited to come help the Atrium reach their goal. Every Saturday morning they will be holding a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11. In August they will host an art class and an art show.
