Stuffing the BearCat With Joy for the Holiday

by KREX News Room
by Amanda Brandeis

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. On Saturday SWAT team members brought out the BearCat, stuffing it with toys for the holidays. The Grand Junction Police Department and the Mesa County Sheriff's Office SWAT teams parked the vehicle outside of Target at the Mesa Mall.

They collected new and unwrapped toys for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.

After dropping off toys, folks had the opportunity to climb aboard the BearCat and learn more about the SWAT team armored rescue vehicle.

Sgt. Jeff Buyrne, with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, said, "Often times when you here about when SWAT teams get called out it's typically not for the best things that go on in the community. So this is our time to come out and help out the community, help out the kids and hopefully be able to get them some toys for Christmas."

If you couldn't make it to the mall to drop off a toy, there's still time to help. You can still bring toys to:

Grand Junction Police Department- 555 Ute Ave.
Mesa County Justice: 125 Spruce St.
