Rifle Moms Lift One Another While Expanding Business

RIFLE, Colo. Rifle Moms For Moms was created less than two years ago and has nearly 300 moms. It's a site that allows them to exchange ideas, network and bring the community closer together.

These women wear many hats, they're entrepreneurs, moms and visionaries.

Denise Ibsen, owner and agent of Ibsen Insurance, said, "When I started shopping for health insurance I realized what a challenge it was to find quality health insurance, and with my background for it to be that difficult I knew it would be hard for others, and so that's what gave me the inspiration to open my own agency."

Elissa Nye, a representative of Wildtree Food, said, "Since having my son I've become really passionate about getting the families back at the table, cooking at home and cooking with better ingredients."

In April of 2011, Leanne Worton created a place where moms like these could go.

Worton said, "You know, you're trying to juggle work and being a family and doing all of those things. I started the Rifle Moms For Moms site to connect other moms with each other and get them engaged in the community."

Living in a rural community, the platform helps moms feel less isolated.

"We've lived in Rifle eight years and I feel like I'm finally a part of the community," said Nye.

"You know, it's more of a challenge than ever to raise kids and happy families and to find that workplace balance," Worton said.

Many of the moms are taking on the challenge of running small businesses.

"Wildtree is all-natural pantry items, we have spice blends, skillet meals, grape-seed oils, sauces," Nye said.

Ibsen said, "At the time I started I had a one year old and a three year old and so trying to juggle those needs of being a mom and being there for them as well as my clients, that became a challenge."

These moms say they can offer the community something big corporations can't.

"When you shop with a mom or a local business that money is staying here, it's paying for dance lessons, it's paying that person's mortgage, it's putting food on their table," said Worton.

"I work from home, which means I can never tell you I wasn't in the office today!" Ibsen said.

While taking on multiple roles is no easy task, these moms say what's life with just one hat?
