MESA, Colo. Folks looking to loosen up their ski boots and still get their fix on the slopes may want to hop in a tube. On Sunday the tubing hill at Powderhorn Mountain Resort officially opened and the mountain is now 99 percent ready to ride.

Seven-year-old tuber Meghan, said, "It's really fun, you should try it!"

Paige, a four-year-old tuber, said, "I kind of twisted first and then I twisted backwards."

Daren Cole, general manager of Powderhorn Mountain Resort, said, "We got some great snow and with the holiday crowds and New Years coming up it was the perfect timing to get the tubing hill open."

When asked how much speed he got, one rider said, "Probably clocking in at like 40 miles per hour, I don't know!"

Last season marked the first year for the tubing run at Powderhorn.

"It's just a great alternative. If you've been skiing part of the day or have members in your group or your family that aren't skiing," Cole said.

There's no experience necessary to glide down the mountain via tube.

Facility supervisor at Powderhorn Resort, Gordan Steidel, said, "I think it brings them up here, it's a safe way to enjoy it. It's cheap and you can do it all day."

Folks are excited about this year's tubing hill because it is wider and meanders through trees.

"We put a few whoop-dee-doos in there and just made it a little more exciting than what we had out there last time," Cole said.

Powderhorn is also excited about the attention they continue to get from the almighty Snow Gods.

"Right now we're one of the top resorts in the state in terms of snowfall, we have about a 43 inch base. And then another storm coming in tonight, we're expecting another eight to 10 inches," said Cole.

Paige said she likes the snow for several reasons, "Because you get to go sledding, you get to go snowmobiling, you get to sometimes eat it!";;

Fresh snow plus new amenities at the resort are getting rave reviews from visitors.

"You know next up is going to be our terrain park. We've started getting that built out, as we get this snow we'll be adding more features," said Cole.

Overall the resort is finishing the year off strong and hopes the trend continues into 2013.
