Manufacturers Need More Employees
GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. On Monday, Mesa County Commissioners discussed diffrent strategies with manufacturing industries to increase the amount of manufacturing employees in the Grand Valley. Commissioners and industry experts say they would like to speak with all levels of local education about implementing more manufacturing curriculum in their programs. "Manufacturing is about 10 percent of the total economy in the country and the people that it employs tend to be a little higher paid with better fringe benefits,” said Western Slope Industries President Merritt Kinsey. "We will talk to District 51, the community college, CMU to see if everything is coordinated to provide the skilled workforce that manufacturer’s need,” said Mesa County Commissioner John Justman. Area manufacturers say they are now looking for potential employees.
