GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. A Grand Junction woman is hoping to bring her diverse background to Denver, officially announcing her candidacy for Senate District 7. Democratic candidate Claudette Konola says she hopes to unify the political parties.
Her background is in economic development. She adds that she was a lender in Denver for the oil and gas industry and has also worked for the farming industry. She believes she can bring a needed balance to the position.
"I think one step at a time you listen to everybody, you make the best decision that you can, that is the best decision for Mesa County. Not for an industry, but for the people that live right here in Mesa County," said Konola.
Konola also tells NewsChannel 5 that she fought breast cancer last year and understands the importance of access to healthcare.
She also notes that she has no plans to push for gun control legislation and understands it is not what the people of Mesa County want.
Ray Scott is the Republican challenger for the seat.
