Local Shop Looks Back on 65 Years of Memories

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- After 65 years of service, The Hanger Dry Cleaners has closed its doors for the last time.

One of the family members, Bridgette Chadd, said, "One of our customers has been coming here for 32 years, and I'm 43, so they remember me from when I could look over the counters!"

Darell Boggs opened The Hanger on Valentine's Day 1947. It was the beginning of a 65-year-long family-owned business.

Terry Boggs, Darell's son, said, "At 14 he started in the dry cleaning business, so he had been in it all of his life."

However, The Hanger was originally in a different location, 348 North Ave., and back then it was called North Avenue Dry Cleaners.

Across the street from the original Hanger, what is now a Copy Copy, used to be the Boggs’ home.

The Hanger settled into its final location in 1961. Then in 1980, Terry bought it from his father.

Terry said, "It's been a real center point in our lives, and it's been pleasant to have all of our customers throughout the years."

Chadd told NewsChannel 5, "What I'm going to miss the most is my customers. Our family has been doing this for a long time, and it's all about the customers."

For this family, The Hanger isn't just a business. For Terry’s four daughters and nine grandchildren, it has been a second home, one the entire family grew up in.

Janell Boggs said, "This was our meeting place ... for birthdays, holidays, and everything. It was awesome."

Although this is the last chapter for The Hanger, another one is beginning for the family.

The family is referring all of their customers to Holiday Cleaners Inc. They are located at 1251 N. 3rd St. Their phone number is 241-2594.

The Boggs are very special people, they will always hold a special place in my heart. I wish them nothing but the best.
