GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The flu shot clinic is officially open at the Grand Junction VA Medical Center. More than 400 people have already taken advantage of the vaccinations.
The clinic opened on Wednesday, with 131 shots given within the first two hours.
Due to high demand for shots last year, the hospital ordered 6,500 doses, and officials do not expect to run out.
Anybody enrolled for care at the VA Medical Center walk through the doors for a shot, as well as any veteran will proof of service.
Paul Sweeney, public relations officer at the hospital, said, "Last year the flu season in Colorado peaked twice. The flu is not only something you want to avoid personally but you don't want to give it to other people. In addition, getting the flu shot protects your employer. A lot of people do not realize the millions of dollars in lost man hours."
Officials say in the past flu season has started in late October, early November, however it is unpredictable.
The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until noon and 1:00 pm until 4:00.
