Explosives at the Salvation Army Building
KREX News Room
GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. On Thursday, the Grand Junction Police Department is conducting an on-going investigation in which two separate explosive devices detonated at the Salvation Army building near 4th street and Kennedy Avenue.
Officers searched the area, but did not immediately find where the sound came from.
Then just after 8:30 pm a second explosive was heard in the area, and a nearby officer spotted a flash and smoke at the Salvation Army building.
Firefighters and officers say that someone placed two objects behind the gutter that exploded.
The explosion of the devices was heard from blocks away alarming the community.
“I jumped it was so loud it shook the building that we were in and we’re a block away. It’s horrible, why someone would do that to the Salvation Army, it’s just uncalled for,” said Leah Anders, witness.
The explosions caused minor damage to the downspouts, pulling them away from the building.
Investigators at the scene say they don’t know what type of explosives they were.
Authorities report that there are no suspects at this time. They are asking if anyone has any information to call the Grand Junction Police Department at 970-242-6707.
