Delta Officials Pleased with Truck Route Progress
DELTA, Colo. While they're slightly behind schedule, officials in Delta are still pleased with progress on the future four-lane truck bypass. The new route will remove truck traffic from downtown Delta, providing a safer and quicker way around town. The project includes two bridges, which will be the first in the city. Officials broke ground in December and say construction will finish in June 2014, roughly two months off schedule. Jim Hatheway, Delta public works director, said, "So far most of the work has been constructed on the north end, we've constructed two bridges, in the process of completing two bridges. We've also completed a lot of the drainage improvements and the road improvements, and getting ready to pave some of the lesser local roads." Once the project is finished, officials look forward to developing the downtown corridor in order to please business owners and bring in more shoppers.
