Minimum Wage in Colo. Set to Increase Jan. 1

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Come Jan. 1, 66,000 low-wage workers in the state will see an increase in their paychecks. Colorado's full minimum wage and tipped minimum wage will increase 14 cents.

Colorado joins nine other states in raising minimum wage rates on New Year's Day, which will boost wages for nearly one million workers nationwide. Colorado's minimum wage increase is the result of a voter-approved state amendment to adjust rates in order to keep pace with he rising cost of living.

Adam Houghton, a server at Old Chicago, said, "Most of us around here, especially with the economy the way it is, we are living from paycheck to paycheck from day to day. So if there was a little bit of extra money there it could help."

The increase will bring the full minimum wage to $7.78, up from $7.64.

It will bring up wages for tipped employees from $4.62 to $4.76.

Colorado's minimum wage rates sit above the federal level of $7.25.

Officials anticipate the increases are estimated to provide $300 per year in wages for the average directly affected worker.

Well said To Multi-Job, I think the other guy complaining is just another Obama zombie. They have no idea what it takes to do anythingnit seems like, let alone have any kind of fundamental knowledge of economics. I feel sorry for people like that. Obama is destroying this countries business climate. And like I said previously just wait until the huge layoff bomb at the beginning of the new year.

Start a business and it will open your eyes. Every time my costs go up my profit goes down. I can't simply absorb it just because I have a business... every barrel has a bottom. I either close up shop, raise my prices, or try to cut expenses. If I raise prices that wipes out your new raise. Which choice would YOU make?

Oh anonymous, I'm sure you are so worth what you are getting paid, aren't you. And concerned citizen, the majority of the jobs in this town are part time, so employers don't have to pay any benefits such as healthcare. Wake up, morons

Not only will employers have to pay all the new wonderful healthcare taxes, but now they will have to pay more for minimum wage. Boy oh boy isn't thus government so great! What a crock!

WOW, $300.00 dollars a year, obama will wipe that out real fast with his new taxes, especially the healthcare tax.
