GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Homecoming week began Monday at Colorado Mesa University, and it's raising school spirit.

Different activities will happen during the week, leading up to the homecoming game on Saturday.

On Monday an Iron Chef-like competition took place.

The two-hour competition featured culinary arts students from Western Colorado Community College.

Once the competition ended, students were invited to eat the food for free.

Tess Matsukawa, a program activities council member at CMU, said, "Your student fees are going towards it, it basically is just a ton of fun events that are going on, and why not take advantage of it? The more people that come the more fun that we have together. It's going to be really awesome."

On Tuesday judging will take place for the school spirit contest.

The Maverick Rodeo Rumble will also happen on Tuesday in the Elm Avenue Quad.

Wednesday is safety day, and on Thursday the foam dance party will take place.

On Friday and Saturday additional events will be held, leading up to Saturday's homecoming game against New Mexico Highlands University.
