GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. For the 25th year in a row, several middle school students in the Grand Valley were selected to go on a Christmas shopping spree at K-Mart on Saturday.

The event is organized by the Fraternal Order of Eagles each year, contributing over $8,000. Each year more students are selected for the charity event, 79 showed up this morning for their spree. Students were given $100 to spend on gifts for family members.

Helen Alley, chairman of the Fraternal Order of Eagles shopping spree, said, "I had a lady this morning that was crying when she came in. No job, on the verge of foreclosure on their house, and she just did not know where Christmas was coming from. When her child got this letter she said, now we have Christmas."

The middle school counselors select the students for the program. Good attendance, citizenship and hard work are factors in the decision. The organization looks forward to continuing the tradition next year.
