WWII Flygirls Honored for Service

The first women in the cockpits of military aircraft were finally honored Wednesday in Washington, D.C. News channel 5 was first to tell you the story of Annabelle Moss, who was one of those female fliers.

The WASPs, as they’re called, including Annabelle, went to the Capitol to receive the Congressional Gold Medal for their contributions to society.

More than a thousand women served during World War II. They never saw combat, but flew just about every other kind of mission.

Just a few hundred of the original WASPs are still alive to pass on their stories.
