Fruita, Colo.
Fruita is known for its dinosaur bones, rock climbing, and of course, rodeo. Tuesday nights in Fruita has rodeo for the whole family. From mutton bustin’ to bull ridding, the Rimrock Rodeo is more than just a rodeo.
13-year-old Grand Junction resident Wyat Brownson has been riding bulls for two years out in Fruita. “It’s my favorite thing to do, and it has been in my family for generations,” Brownson told News Channel 5 as he fixed the bill of his cowboy hat.
Wyat’s dad, Sha, has seen his fair share of the riding, too, at rodeos across the state, but he says this rodeo has something special. “Out here, it’s more friendship. Everybody cheers for each other, and it is a great place to bring the kids out too they enjoy it,” Brownson said.
The rodeo is also a great way to let the dozens of young riders show the crowd what they’ve got. “It is the most exciting thing you can do. There is such a rush,” Wyat Brownson added.
Sha admits his son is learning far more than how to ride out at the rodeo. “They learn how to overcome their weaknesses and find their strengths,” he said.
Even though Wyat did not win this week, he says he will be back again next week. “I am just glad to be out doing something so fun and not at home wasting my time on the couch.”
The Rimrock rodeo is every Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. this summer over at Rimrock Adventures in Fruita.
News Channel 5 is a proud sponsor of the event.
