Joe Thompson joined News Channel 5 in May 2009 as the weekend meteorologist/weekday reporter.

Originally from Perrysburg, Ohio, Joe graduated in 2009 from Penn State University with a B.S. in meteorology, and is a self-described “weather weenie”. During his time at Penn State, Joe participated in numerous television productions, including Weather World, a 15-minute show broadcast live across the state of Pennsylvania each weekday. The show gave Joe both on-air as well as behind the scenes experience, as he also produced and directed the show.

While weather is Joe’s passion, he is also a huge sports fan, always cheering on the Nittany Lions or any team from the city of Detroit. He is also excited to check out the beauty of Western Colorado, and can’t wait to go skiing in the Rockies, something he’s wanted to do for over a decade.

Joe is excited to be at News Channel 5, and looks forward to forecasting and reporting for the Grand Valley and Western Slope.
