The Ped Egg

The Ultimate Foot File?

by Meaghan Wallace

Christmas is right around the corner, and it's time to load up on stocking stuffers. We may have found just the perfect item: a hand-sized pedicure tool called the Ped Egg that claims to be the easiest way to keep your feet clean and smooth.

We put it to the test at Five 60 Salon in Grand Junction. Barbara Roberts, their professional nail technician, does dozens of pedicures a week was anxious to try it out.

But she took one look at the blade and wasn't sure if she wanted to do it on herself. "It seems a little sharp," Roberts said.

Then she took a deep breathe and started scrapping. She wasn't blown away. "I don't think it could a substitute for an actual pedicure," Roberts said.

Roberts did feel like she was getting some of her dead skin off, so we opened it up to see just how much. There was a little bit of dead skin, but Roberts found that gross to look at.

So was it worth the ten dollar price tag? "I think it's a little pricey for what it does. You can buy a $1.99 emery paddle at the beauty supply store and get a very similar result," Roberts said.

And what's our expert's rating for the Ped Egg? "I'd give it two out of five stars," Roberts said. "It's effective, but it could be too effective, and you don't want to hurt yourself."

"I have pretty sensitive skin and it was a little too much for me," Roberts said.

And she warns that if you do buy it, it's definitely something you want to keep very clean. "You just don't want a breeding ground for bacteria--and they love dead skin cells," Roberts said.
