PetZoom: The Self Cleaning Brush

by Meaghan Wallace

It's a pet brush that promises easy cleaning with just the click of a button.
Who better to try it than Melissa Wallway, a kennel technician at Mesa County Animal Services, who handles dozens of animals a day.
"Alot of people struggle with grooming, because its such a hard job. Especially with a dog like this he has so much hair, especially in the winter time," said Wallway.
It usually takes Wallway about an hour to fully brush Riggs, a German Shepard mix...and she does it at least twice a week.
The brush that Wallway usually uses has bristles very far apart which limit the amount of hair that she can collect.
"It's definitely harder if you don't have a good brush because it take even longer to brush the dog," said Wallway.
And then there's the clean up. The job nobody wants to do, pull all of that excess hair out the brush.
So we tried the PetZoom out on Riggs and after just minutes, you could see the difference. The PetZoom was able to pull out a lot more loose hair.
But, can it release that wad of hair with just the click of a button?
Wallway clicked, and clicked and the hair just wouldnt come off.
As she pushed the buttom you could see the bottom gray plate on the brush push through the top of the bristles. However, not quite far enough, because after a few minutes Wallway finally gave in and pulled it off the brush herself.
"It did get the hair out faster but as far as saving time with pushing the hair out..I would say none at all," said Wallway. "I don't even remember how many times i clicked it."
So what would our expert rate the PetZoom out of five stars?
"Probably about a two," Wallway said. "Just your average brush, I would say."
