The driver of a minivan is in the hospital after the van jumps a curb, hits a tree, and slams into the side of a local restaurant. The crash happened just before 6:00 Friday night.
Authorities tell us the driver was suffering some sort of medical emergency when he lost control and slammed into the back of Carino’s. He narrowly missed several parked cars, but did destroy several trees and damaged the building.
News Channel 5 was first on the scene, and saw the driver being taken away by ambulance.
But witnesses and police agree everyone is lucky that no one else was hit by the out of control van. “It jumped the curb, went through the parking lot, almost hit those parked cars and then hit the building,” said witness Nichole Adamson.
“We see a lot of people walking her in the parking lot and we are lucky no one was hit tonight,” said Steve Moore with the GJPD.
Carino’s remained open despite the van hitting the back of the building. They say it appears damage is only to the exterior.
The condition of the driver is not known.
