It’s time to clean up again as a tornado strikes the Front Range for the third time in one week. This time, the tornado was spotted near the town of Elbert. A resident of the nearby town of Elizabeth says the tornado appeared to be on the ground for 15 or 20 minutes. Another person described the twister as “really huge"… and says it was accompanied by thunder, lightning, and rain.
An Elbert County man took this home video. He says his wife called him to warn him to take cover and when he looked outside this is what he saw coming towards his house...his house was spared, but you can see the path of destruction as the twister rolled across the ground and did major damage to at least one farm. The tornado flattened a large section of a 100 year-old barn and stripped roofing materials off of several homes.
Residents say there was a lot of rain, thunder and lightning. There were no immediate reports of any injuries. The tornado apparently also touched ground near an area where people are able to fly into and out of their homes.A couple of small planes were damaged. Dangerous thunderstorms, packing heavy rain, hail, lightning and tornadoes have roared across parts of Colorado for the last nine days.
