Glenwood Springs, Colo.
A popular tourist destination in Glenwood Springs is taking a hit because of the I-70 closure. The Glenwood Hot Springs Resort says that about 10% of their reservations have been canceled the past few days, mainly by those who live on the Front Range who can’t make it to Glenwood Springs. However, the resort says they are not charging for last-minute cancellations due to the current circumstances.
Due to all the spring break travelers, March is a big month for the resort, which operates a lodge, a spa, an athletic club, and maintains an outdoor pool that is constantly heated to 90 degrees by the nearby hot spring. But while the resort has lost some business, they say the highway closing is more of a nuisance than anything, and are hopeful the highway will be back open before weekend travelers hit the road.
But even with the disruptions, the resort says all their employees are able to report for work, and is still open for business. “Our pool is open, Spa of the Rockies is open, everything in Glenwood is open for business,” says Ann Denney, director of sales and marketing for Glenwood Hot Springs. “We’re waiting for people to come if they can make it work,” says Denney.
The resort is also offering a thank you to the CDOT workers for their hard work trying to clear, repair and reopen I-70. The resort says they’re offering crews a free swim in their heated pool.
