A new study shows some bad news for Colorado’s unemployment situation. The Department of Labor and Employment released seasonally adjusted figures for January on Wednesday. The number of Coloradans with jobs went down by 4,700 to about 2.5 million.

The number of people who looked for a job, but couldn’t find one, rose by 3,800 to about 196,000.

Here in Mesa County, the unemployment rate for January was 10.2%, which is worse than the state rate of 7.4%.

Employment increased in trade, transportation and utilities, leisure and hospitality, financial activities, and manufacturing.

Employment declined in education and health services, construction, professional and business services, and government.

Those number of 10.2% and 7.4% probably don’t reflect the people not regestered with Colorado Job Service centers. Based on the increasing number of vacant homes and apartments in Grand Junction some of the unemployed have simply left town.
Also Energy Production belongs on the list of declining employment.
