Grand Junction, Colo.

Part of the Colorado National Monument was closed off to drivers Saturdsay,as part of the Monument’s Centennial Celebration.

Until 2 o’clock in the afternoon, the community was invited to walk, bike or run the Monument. This was made possible by Monument authorities by closing a postion of Rim Rock Drive.

Pets were also welcome as long as owners kept them on a leash. Dogs are usually not allowed on the Monument.

Lance and Annika Weidemann were visiting from Glenwood Springs and hiked with their mom and grand parents up the Monument. The seven and nine year olds said their favorite part of the hike was finding and catching lizards.

Joan Anzelmo, Superintendent of the Colorado National Monument, estimates about two thousand people took advantage of Saturday’s road closure.
