While the flu season may have reached its peak, Mesa County health officials are predicting a second, unexpected wave to hit.

As families travel and return home for the holidays, doctors say Mesa County may see another swine flu outbreak. Doctors are encouraging parents to continue to get their kids vaccinated for both the H1N1 as well as the seasonal flu. Kids ages nine and younger need two rounds of both flu shots. If they don’t get the second one, doctors say they can still get the virus.

Health officials say thousands of kids have gotten H1N1, but there are serious signs parents should watch for. If your child has trouble breathing, a high fever for a few days, a rash, a severe cough, gray or bluish skin color, or not waking up or interacting, they need to see the doctor right away. Remember, people can get H1N1 more than once, so make sure you and your family are taking precautions to stay healthy.
