Grand Junction, Colo.
Mesa County is looking to buy the old City Market warehouse at 105 W. Colorado Avenue in Grand Junction. The building is located across the street from the convention center, and is currently unoccupied.
Monday morning, Mesa County commissioners authorized the county to make a bid of $850,000 for the property. It will be up to the private company that owns the building to accept or reject the offer. The county hopes the facility will help them consolidate numerous county services and departments into one building.
Jon Peacock, the Mesa County Administrator, says if the county ends up purchasing the building that the Clerk and Recorder’s office that runs the county’s DMV could be relocated to the facility. Currently, the county DMV is located inside Mesa Mall. Peacock says other departments that could occupy the old warehouse would be the building and development departments, including planning, building inspections, and public works.
The county says consolidating all the services could create enough savings to pay for the $850,000 price tag in just seven years.
