Grand Junction, Colo.
A Fruita native is dead after a medical helicopter crashes in El Paso, Texas, leaving a Grand Junction family mourning the loss. Anthony Archuleta, 54, was killed Friday night when his helicopter went down during scheduled training exercises at Fort Bliss. He was an EMT on that helicopter.
Anthony’s memory is fresh in his family’s mind. They say he always had a smile on his face and was always willing to lend a helping hand since he was a little boy.
The state capitol building in Denver lowered its flag to half mast on Monday, and Archuleta will have a full military memorial at the base where he was working.
The Southwest MedEvac chopper crashed on final approach to a landing zone. Officials say at the time of the crash the weather was clear and the pilot was in contact with the military and the company’s communication center.
