New details were released on Monday about the shooting that happened early Saturday morning. Officers were dispatched to a call about an unknown man on the property at 610 Gunnison Avenue.
According to police, an intruder was knocking on the front door of the property when the homeowner asked him to leave. The intruder refused and continued to knock on windows on the side of the house as he headed toward the back yard. He was asked a second time by the homeowner to leave but did not comply.
Sergeant Lonnie Chavez of the Grand Junction Police Department said, “The homeowner lost sight of him as he went around the house, not leaving the yard. The homeowner went outside to confront him or find where he was at. That’s when we know the shooting had occurred.”
Police are not looking for anyone in connection with the shooting at this time. Police will only say the shooter was a sworn officer with the National Parks Services. We do not know the identity of the victim at this time. So far, no charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
