Democrats in the house are moving closer to passing President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul. The final debate and vote, expected on Sunday, is also heating up concern on the Western Slope.
“Has anybody even read the Bill?” asked one local citizen.
“I’ve read parts of it over the internet, ” said Jannie May.
“No one can say they fully understand it,” said Janette Ellis.
While the final vote on Health Care reform draws near, many local residents are not even sure what it’s all about.
“Who can fully understand 2,500 pages? I mean that’s impossible.” said Arvid Mosnes.
The US House of Representatives condensed the two thousand plus pages of the Bill down to four, in attempts to inform the public, but some feel it’s still not clear enough.
“I’m not sure who does know what is in it and don’t think they’re letting any of the general public know what’s in it,” said Chuck Armstrong.
Armstrong admits there may be positive pieces.
“There could be some benefits in it for at least some people, but how can you tell?” asked Armstrong.
Local citizens may be less concerned with the actual Health Care message and more wrapped up in Political Party lines.
“Has Obama even read the Bill?” asked one man.
“We’re going to be paying taxes on something we can’t even use right away,” said Jonathan May.
“It’s not a right; it’s a privilege to have Health Care,” said Jannie May.
The latest Kaiser Poll shows 36% of Americans would like Lawmakers to start all over. “The best thing to do is probably just go back to the drawing board,” said Josnathan May.
The Kaiser Poll also shows 42% percent of Americans say Congress has debated Health Care Reform long enough and it’s time for them to take a vote, while 20% say Congress should move onto other topics.
