Grand Junction, Colo.
A strong finish to the regular season has catipulted Gene Taylor’s summer league baseball team into the postseason.
GT won three of it’s final four games to finish with a 19-13 record and earned a 7th seed in the Colorado American Legion “A” League State Tournament.
It’s Taylor’s first summer in Legion Ball in more than 20 years and it has given the club a different feeling than in previous seasons.
“You know, it gives them something to play for at the end of the summer compared to previous two or three summers where you play your last tournament and the summer just ends,” said Head Coach Blaine Bernades. “There (used to be) no big goal for you at the end of the summer but now we are giving these kids something to play for in the end.”
“I was really excited when we found out we were playing in American Legion and getting all of those extra games throughout the year, so we are not just playing tournaments. We can actually play for something and we made it to State and now we get to play for a Championship so it’s really exciting,” added former Grand Junction High School standout Tyler Stanford.
Gene Taylor’s will play the second seed, Fairview, on Wednesday afternoon at 12:00 pm at Butch Butler Field in Greeley.
