The man accused of running down four people with a truck outside of Cactus Canyon makes an appearance in court. Friday morning, Robert Helwig, 25, was charged with four counts of first degree attempted murder, as well as first degree and second degree assault.

He’s accused of running over four men last Thursday morning outside of Cactus Canyon. All four had to be hospitalized with serious injuries.

Officials say the whole thing started after a verbal altercation. The Mesa County District Attorney’s office says if convicted of all offenses, Helwig could face dozens of years, or even life, in prison.

“It appears that he attempted to run down, or did run down four victims. At this point at least two of those victims are, I believe, still in the hospital,” Mesa County District Attorney, David Waite said.

Helwig will be back in court on August 9th.
